Kena 4D!

Yes, I am officially a money making machine for Ah Mah. She has always been lucky when it comes to buying 4D. Kor Kor Elijah has been a great blessing to her as she has made quite a bit of money from his date of birth to his birth certificate number.

When Ah Mah looked at me closely the other day, she was certain I will bring her good luck too. True enough, she struck 4D today with my birth certificate number. My birth cert is T0839898 so she bought 9898 and it came out as a consolation number. She gave me $800 as contribution to my university fund. Thank you Ah Mah!

CNY Day 2

The second day of Chinese New Year is usually to visit Mummy and Daddy's good friends. This year, we were only making 2 stops as Daddy doesn't think it is a good idea to move me too much. We started with lunch at Aunty Lynn's house. This year, she had more friends at her place as she invited her friends from her church. As usual, the spread of food is simply amazing at her house. Daddy and Mummy had mee siam, kueh pieti, sashimi, Turkish rice, beef stew and all the new year goodies. All these goodies were prepared by Aunty Lynn together with her trusted helper, Aunty Daisy. We spend the whole afternoon there. Actually we spend half the afternoon in Aunty Lynn's room as Mummy had to express her milk and then put me to sleep.

In the evening, we went to Uncle Benny's place at Branksome Road. Apparently Uncle Benny has been inviting loads of friends to his place on the second day of CNY for dinner for many years now. He will usually have a marquee over his garden to house about 10 tables and will catered food for almost 150 people. Friends of his take this opportunity to meet up once a year.

While Aunty Lynn was feeding me my milk, she discovered that I was able to hold my bottle when it was not too heavy. Daddy and Mummy were most impressed with me. I have a funny feeling they want me to hold my bottle and feed myself soon. We shall see....

Happy Nui Year

Today is the first day of the Chinese Lunar New Year or Spring Festival as it is sometimes called. According to tales and legends, the beginning of Chinese New Year started with the fight against a mythical beast called the Nian. Nian would come on the first day of New Year to devour livestock, crops, and even villagers, especially children. To protect themselves, the villagers would put food in front of their doors at the beginning of every year. It was believed that after the Nian ate the food they prepared, it wouldn’t attack any more people. One time, people saw that the Nian was scared away by a little child wearing red. The villagers then understood that the Nian was afraid of the color red. Hence, every time when the New Year was about to come, the villagers would hang red lanterns and red spring scrolls on windows and doors. People also used firecrackers to frighten away the Nian. From then on, the Nian never came to the village again.

I woke up as usual and Mummy bathed and changed me into my new clothes. After wishing Nai Nai and Ye Ye a Happy New Year, I was given ang pows from them. Nai Nai was suppose to make ginko nut and longan soup to start the new year with sweet blessings but she was apparently too busy the night before and forgot about it. Daddy decided to drink tea instead.

We started with 3rd grand aunty's house in Toa Payoh as she is the eldest and all the relatives will be there at some point in time during the day. When grand uncle (Nai Nai's youngest brother) saw me, he was very happy and asked to carry me. Apparently when Daddy was a baby, grand uncle had carried him and brought him around the kampong. It reminded him of the good ole days and he couldn't help telling everyone as he held on to me.

After Toa Payoh, we headed to Mummy's Tua Gu's place in Ang Mo Kio. Sadly Tua Lau Gu passed away just a couple of weeks ago. However, his dying wish was that we must still go to his house and celebrate Chinese New Year and be happy as a big extended family, so that was what we did. Everyone was there and we enjoyed each other's presence.

My First Reunion Dinner

Today is the eve of the Chinese New Year. Traditionally, every member of the family, near or far, get together to celebrate the start of the new year. The dinner usually includes many dishes and not eaten completely as the Chinese phrase nian nian you yu or every year there is fish/leftover means that there is profit every year or be blessed every year.

We started with reunion dinner at Ah Mah's house. Everyone was back home at the agreed timing of 5pm and we had many of Ah Mah's favourite dishes. Normally we do not eat at the same time as some might have to work late but for reunion dinners on the eve of Chinese New Year, everybody must be present before dinner can start.

Reunion dinners at Ah Mah's house is unfortunately very rushed as we have to attend the other reunion dinner with Nai Nai. Ah Mah is kind enough to take the earlier slot so that we can take our time with the second. Nai Nai has prepared steamboat which has been the practice for many years. We got home and continued with the second dinner. Unfortunately Steve Yi Sok is not able to come back this Chinese New Year as he is busy with many projects in Dubai and cannot take leave. Hope to see you soon Steve Yi Sok.

Today is also Gu Zhe Michelle's birthday so we celebrated with a cake from the Royal Cake shop. Apparently it is one of Daddy's favourite cake as their chocolate cake is very delicious. Unfortunately I still cannot eat any cakes so I will have to wait for another year.

I was officially introduced to the pacifier today. It was against Daddy and Mummy's initial intention to give me something that will only keep me quiet but does not tell them why I am crying, not that I am about to talk anytime soon. However, they finally relented because I was crying quite a bit and taking in too much air and as a result, the embarrassing flatulence problem I currently have.

Hep B Injection

I am due for my Hep B injection and Mummy and Daddy decided to check out Dr Junior Hiew at Marine Terrace. Apparently he was highly recommended by Uncle Edward and Aunty Phyllis.

We got to the clinic early and were the first there. Dr Hiew is a very pleasant doctor. Daddy and Mummy finds him very approachable and easy to talk to. Unlike the first paediatrician Dr Yip, Dr Hiew seems very patient and informative. He explained to Daddy and Mummy the difference between the infant formula milk powder. I think Mummy and Daddy will be coming back to him in future.

During the check up, Dr Hiew informed that I am now 5kg and 55cm in length. He mentioned that I am actually overweight given that I was only 3.175kg at birth. However, it is not exactly a bad thing but I shouldn't put on too much too fast. He gave me the Hep B injection. It was painful and I cried so pitifully after the jab. Mummy had to cuddle me and pat me to sooth me.

Bye Bye Aunty Jia Ming

Today is the 28th day since I got home from Gleneagles Hospital, which means Aunty Jia Ming, the confinement lady, will be leaving us today. She had been very helpful to Mummy and Daddy over the last 4 weeks as she woke up in the middle of the night to help feed and change me. She also cooked for Mummy but as she does not have many ideas, Mummy got tired of the same stuff after 4 weeks. Although Mummy and Daddy thinks she is a little blur sometimes, she had been a great help as they adjusted to my presence in their lives. Thank you Aunty Jia Ming.

Daddy drove us to Ah Mah's house before going to work today. SInce Aunty Jia MIng won't be around today and Nai Nai has to busy herself with the New Year preparations, Mummy took the chance to spend time with Ah Mah. Ah Mah apparently had prepared some Papaya and Fish soup to increase Mummy's milk supply. She also prepared some new dishes for Mummy as she needed something new and tasty to help her put on some weight.

I had a good time at Ah Mah's house as it was very windy and I slept very comfortably throughout the day.

Chinese Name

Mummy and Daddy, together with the help of Ye Ye and the options from Master Chiang, decided I shall be called 植 政 豪 (Zhi Zheng Hao). 政 as in government, political affairs, and 豪 as in brave, heroic, chivalrous, unrestrained, outstanding, powerful. Mummy and Daddy have never really believed in the feng shui thingy but with their (especially Daddy's) limited Chinese vocabulary, they had to turn to Master Chiang for help.

We went to the immigration centre to register my birth today. It was very crowded there but thank goodness there was a special section meant for birth registration and as there were not so many births lately, we didn't have to wait at all. After Mummy filled up the form and submitted it, it took less than 5 minutes before the aunty at the counter laminated my new birth certificate. My Identification Number seems easy to remember.. T0839898. The aunty mentioned that it implies that there were about 39,898 babies who were born in 2008 and registered before me. I hope Ah Mah and Nai Nai will make money with these numbers.

Party Time Encore!

We had the second day of my one month celebration at home today. Mummy catered food from Neo Garden and a beautiful cake from ecreative.com. The caterer came really early at 11am and had everything set up by 11.30am. Daddy put up balloons and banners outside our door to welcome the guest.

Ah Mah and Ah Gong were the first to arrive at about 12pm, followed by other aunties and uncles. At one point in time, there were so many people in the living and dining room Daddy had to go to the steps to take pictures. It was really crowded and everybody seemed to be having a good time catching up. It was very nice of all my uncles and aunties to give me more ang pows today. I guess I have part of my university funds taken care of. Thank you uncles and aunties!!!

After the last guest left at about 5pm, Nai Nai cleaned up the house and packed the leftovers. She was completely pooped as she fell asleep on the sofa watching TV. Thank you Mummy and Daddy for planning these 2 parties for me and making me feel so loved... :)

Party Time!

I am 27 days old today. Traditionally, most parents will have a 1 month celebration when their child turns 1 month old. Mummy and Daddy decided that there will be one party for their friends today and another for our relatives tomorrow.

After many days of looking around, Mummy and Daddy decided on this place called Chalk Restaurant @ Mount Sophia. It was known previously as Bistro Gaga and Mummy and Daddy had dinner there with Aunty Peggy and Uncle Alex and they liked it. The ambience is cosy and the food tasty. We booked the whole place for tea from 2pm to 6pm. Uncle Marcus, the restaurant owner and also one of the chef, was very nice and arranged for a nice spread of food for us.

I can tell Daddy and Mummy had lots of fun meeting up with friends they haven't met for a while. At some point, it seem like it was their party but I guess Daddy and Mummy really wanted everyone to know that I have arrived. My job was easy, I just slept and woke up occasionally for my milk. I was passed around from aunties to uncles and then back to Daddy or Mummy for their friends and then back to Aunty Jia Ming again for my milk. Some were steady, some were not but all in all I had a good massage.

After the party at Chalk, we continued celebrating at grand godma's place. She wasn't home when we got there so we just made ourselves at home. It was unusual that there wasn't food in grand godma's house so Aunty Daisy cooked maggie noodle for everyone. We left for home at about 10pm.

It was a good day. I received lots of ang pows and more presents... thank you all aunties and uncles for your generosity. :)

Mummy and Daddy's Office

I had another field trip today. It was the second day of cake distribution and this time we went to Mummy and Daddy's respective offices. I wore one of my favourite rompers but I think it might the first and last time I wear it because I have grown too big for it :( We picked up 3 big cakes from Jane Cake Station at Jalan Kayu. Mummy says the chocolate cake there is nice as it is not too sweet. It looks yummy but I guess I will have to wait a while before I can sink my gums into it.

We went to Daddy's Claymore office first. It is near the shopping area and it was congested with lots of cars. After waiting for 20 mins, we finally found a parking lot. There were many aunties and zhe zhes who came to see me and one uncle David who was curious whose parents I belong to. I gave Mummy a chance to show off her diaper changing skills by crapping. Everyone seemed impressed with her and I was good after that.

After spending about an hour at Daddy's office, we brought one of the cakes to Harbour Front where some of Mummy's colleagues were located. We had Aunty Joanna help us with bringing the cake up to the rest of Mummy's friends. Thank you Aunty Joanna.

Our last stop was Mummy's own office at One George. It is a very nice and posh looking office. There were many aunties and zhe zhes there too and a few more uncles and kor kors there. I also got to meet my cousin Tricia who works with Mummy in the same office. Again I gave Mummy another chance to show off her skills but there were some supernannies (Aunty Haslinda in particular) there who beat her to the job. I had a good time in Mummy's office as there were many aunties who carried me around and treated me like their own. I think some were hoping I bring them good luck with child bearing.. :)

Full Month Cake

According to the Chinese tradition, Mummy and Daddy ordered boxes of cakes to be given to elders of the 2 families. This is to announce to everyone that I am doing good after one month and also to celebrate the end of confinement for Mummy and myself, not that we were really confined to the house for the past month.

I was fortunate enough to tag along with Nai Nai, Mummy and Daddy for the almost whole-day event. I was getting a little restless sleeping the whole day at home so it was good that I got some fresh air. We had a total of 38 boxes of cakes to be distributed island wide. Gu Zhe Michelle helped with 5 boxes and we did the rest.

We started with my 3rd great grandaunty who is from Ipoh and visiting her daughter in Tiong Bahru. She was examining my face and trying to see who I resemble more, she concluded I look more like Mummy with only some parts like Daddy. She also likes my long fingers as she says I can grab more from the world in future... :)

There was also 7th great grandaunty who was jumping, literally, when she saw me. Daddy told me he used to stay with this aunty when he was born and spent his confinement with Nai Nai at her house. Unfortunately she has developed some sickness and couldn't really speak but she was obviously elated seeing Nai Nai and all of us.

We also went to Outram Park, Icon at Tanjong Pagar, Queenstown, Farrer Road, Thomson Road, Yio Chu Kang, Newton, Geylang, Katong and finally ended with Bedok. All in all, we spent almost 6 hours driving around and distributing cakes. Daddy was pooped by the time we got back.

Quite A Day

After Mummy developed breast inflammation last week, she decided we should pay a visit to the breast feeding specialist at Mother and Child Centre. It was recommended by Aunty Jedidah who has never fed Jewel Zhe Zhe a single drop of formula milk, so they have to be good. We visited Aunty Uma at the centre located at Tanglin Mall. She was very nice and helped Mummy get into position. It was very comfortable for me too as I was resting on this cushion made specially for breast feeding. Mummy felt good as she has found the correct way of feeding me. However, she thinks it could also be due to the cushion that made both of us very comfortable. They also took my weight at the centre and I now weigh 3.77kg and measure 53.5cm in length. Thank you Mummy for feeding me all those milk.

From Tanglin Mall, we rushed over to The Studio Loft for my photo shoot. Aunty Mary-Ann is the owner and principal photographer of this place. At first she was quite fierce but later she was much nicer even though I peed all over her studio. Well, they can't blame me, they stripped me of all my clothes and wanted to take pictures of me. I am not used to such public display of my skin, so I peed all over to show my displeasure. It took almost 3 hours for her to take about 50 shots, I must have been the most difficult client she ever had. Fortunately Daddy and Mummy seemed quite happy with the photos and ordered quite a few for keepsake.

By the way, I did my maiden trip on the Bugaboo today. I love the colour of the pram and I must say it is very comfortable cos I slept on it for about 2 hours while Mummy and Daddy were discussing about my 1 month party with Uncle Marcus.

The last time i crapped was about 2 days ago and everyone at home is getting quite concerned. I kept farting though and I must say they are quite potent. Mummy thinks that every time I turn all red is because I am trying to push my poo out but nothing comes out. I am getting quite uncomfortable myself cos Daddy says I am now full of s*@t. Let's hope I can get all those mustard looking stuff out soon...

Mummy and Daddy has this Cot Mobile over my bed since I was first placed in there. However it was only yesterday that I took notice of it. It kept swirling over my head and I particularly like Tigger. Mummy says I am more observant now and starting to notice things around me. I guess she doesn't know that the swirling is making my head a little dizzy and I am just trying to find out what that is.. maybe I should go to sleep soon.. zzz

More Milk Please

My appetite seems to have increased over the last couple of days. After several hints with my irritating cries, Mummy decided it was time to increase my milk intakes. What used to be 60ml has slowly been increased to 90ml. That is like a 50% increase over a couple of days. No wonder Mummy is getting stressed over whether her production can keep pace with my demands. She has even contemplated buying milk from Gu Zhe Michelle but she decided she shouldn't deprive WeiEn of her milk.

I overheard Daddy telling Mummy that Aunty Jean asked him what does Mummy eat these days. I think she was referring to what kind of confinement food she is having but someone suggested that with the amount of milk Mummy needs to supply me, she should start looking at grass and hay instead... hmmmmm...

Aunty Jean also suggested to Daddy that he should put a baby picture of himself next to mine to see if there is actually any resemblance since a lot of people says I look like Daddy although I personally think I am cuter.

Umbilical Stub

Early this morning at 2am, there was a commotion over my umbilical stub. Aunty Jia Ming was changing me after I pooed and she called out to Daddy to tell him that my umbilical stub had fallen off. Problem was she cannot find it as it was quite a small piece of dried tissue. She was quite sure she didn't throw it away together with the diapers. She then stripped me naked and asked Daddy to check my pyjamas. As Daddy fling my pyjamas, he heard fell on the floor and rolled under the bed. After stretching his hands under the bed for a while, he managed to recover the umbilical stub. It was safely stored in a test tube meant for the stub. Another piece of souvenir for Daddy...

Something else terrible happened today. Mummy tried to put on a new romper for me, one meant for newborns. Unfortunately, I am rather long and Mummy wasn't able to button the romper together. I think there are a few others that cannot fit me too and that means I won't get to wear some of the cute rompers that Mummy has picked for me :(

Happy New Year

Today is the first day of 2009. Nothing much happened because I am still sleeping a lot and Mummy is on confinement. We did have Aunty Angie and Uncle Ling with their sons come visit us. They gave me lots of new clothes.. thank you Aunty Angie and Uncle Ling...

Well, since nothing much happened today, I shall show you a new video of me since the last one was done 11 days ago. As you can tell, there was a mosquito disturbing me. *POUT*
